Everyday Cleaning

It’s easy peasy cleaning quartz countertops for everyday messes. Use a mild dish soap (or detergent) with water and a non-abrasive scrub. What I love to do is wipe down the counter after every meal and each time I load the dishwasher. This way, you’re sure to pick up any small spills whether you can see them or not. Plus, it’s a great habit to pick up so you keeping up the daily maintenance of your quartz countertops. The goal of making the quartz countertops last is maintenance.

Deep Cleaning

Store Products

For deep cleaning, you can use Goo Be Gone. It’s great at getting rid of tougher stains without damaging the quartz. Weinman Stone is another great store brand to use. I’ve used this brand personally on our countertops and appliances and their product is effective. Be sure to make sure you aren’t picking a brand that contains bleach or acidic ingredients.

Natural Alternatives

Vinegar is a great natural cleaning alternative. Dilute vinegar with two parts water and you’ll be all set for deep cleaning. Vinegar is very acidic which isn’t good for the countertop’s finish. Diluting the vinegar ensures you don’t discolor the countertops.

What to Avoid

Abrasive Scrubs & Cleaners

I can’t stress this enough. Stay away from abrasive scrubs and cleaners. You don’t want to scratch or strip the countertops which both are sure to do, unfortunately.

Ignoring Spills

Spills are easy to clean off quartz countertops UNLESS you let the spills set. The longer the spill remains on the countertops, the harder it will be to remove. You want to avoid staining those beautiful countertops. So, clean up any spills as soon as you make them. This way, there is no lasting damage to the exterior.

Chopping/Dicing

It can be so tempting to just chop a quick apple up for the kids or dice an onion when the cutting board is nowhere to found. Ignore this temptation and avoid cutting anything directly on the countertop. The knife will leave scratches that will remain and are hard to ignore.

Acid Cleaners

Sometimes, we can go a bit overboard with the cleaners. We think if we smell the cleaning products that it’s “working”. This mindset doesn’t apply to quartz countertops. The key to cleaning them are mild products. Strong products like acid cleaners will strip or stain the countertops.
