We were able to catch up with one of our designers, Kaye Phares, who is taking the early 2000s kitchen to the present-day. With many homeowners in need of a kitchen update, Kaye is an expert at achieving their desired look from cabinet colors to countertops.

How did you get your start in kitchen design?

My background consists of art, interior design, and psychology. I started out as an artist/faux finisher in the early 2000s during the glazing craze, but I wanted to combine all my passions into my work. Once the market picked up and glazing died down, I knew it was time to ReVamp clients’ kitchens. So, I began focusing on interior design which is what I love doing.
Before I start a project, I listen to the client and learn more about them. By understanding who they are, I am able to design a kitchen that fits their personality. I believe that colors and patterns can define our thoughts and moods. For instance, a monochromatic design with natural elements such as wood and stone brings a relaxing feeling to many. I love soothing colors in a kitchen with the countertops as the “art piece” of the room.

What are the most popular design trends for kitchens?

For me, the modern farmhouse and transitional design are still very popular. I love the clean fresh feeling these two trends bring to the home. It definitely brings more people into the kitchen. The kitchen has become the new family room!

What are your favorite cabinet styles/colors?

My favorite cabinet styles/colors are still the traditional ones but resurfaced with either a soft gray tone, a warm gray-beige, and of course, white. And it needs to be the right white. There are so many whites to choose from but some whites can appear yellow, blue, or even peach/pink if not selected carefully. Lighting and surrounding colors make each white appear different in every home.
Honestly, it is all about finding the right white color for each client and being cost-effective. You need to find the perfect look that will last for many years. The end result is a happy home!

What are your favorite countertops?
Quartz countertops are very popular right now, but we are also incorporating a lot of white/gray granite into our kitchen designs. Haverhill and Ashton White are some of my favorite colors. As mentioned, I like countertops to be the “art piece” of the room. You can achieve that look with natural stone.
